Long before emails and instant messages, the telegram revolutionized the way people communicated across distances. It was the original "instant message," a marvel of 19th-century technology that turned days of waiting into minutes.

The story of the telegram begins with the invention of the electric telegraph. In the early 1830s, inventors across Europe and America were experimenting with ways to transmit messages over wires. One name stands out among them: Samuel Morse. In 1844, Morse successfully sent the first long-distance telegram using his newly developed Morse code, from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, with the famous message: What hath God wrought?
